In the January 2012 edition of LUX Magazine, they announce their winner of the LUX Awards 2011. This year, the winner is the MasterLED 12W GLS Bulb by Philips: "The 12W Philips MasterLED is what the company calls a 'green flagship' product and the best environmental choice when measured against either its competition or in applications. Lamp life is estimated at 25,000 hours. The judges were impressed and said Philips had 'cracked the nut' with this LED lamp. They also praised its 'elegant package' and light distribution." LEDs offer a brighter future

The BBC just published a report by the Energy Saving Trust: 'LEDs offer a brighter future', which discusses a field trial of LED light fittings in social housing to test he new technology: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-16199552 'The study, carried out by the Energy Saving Trust (EST), measured the performance of more than 4,250 LED light fittings installed at 35 sites. It is predicted the technology could dominate the lighting market by 2015' 'James Russill, EST's technical development manager says "We are at one of those rare times when there is a revolution, I think it is fair to say, within the lighting sector. LEDs promise to be the way forward for the whole sector, to be honest. There are so many benefits: they can be smaller, brighter; i t is one of those rare technologies where the trial has shown it performs better than the lighting systems it is replacing but, at the same time, using less energy "' shuttla;  http:
